Anishinabek Education System – Update

On October 2, 2017 Council passed the Draft Aamjiwnaang Education Law.  Please read the cover letter from Vicki Ware, Education Coordinator to see how Band Members can provide your input.

On December 2, 2016 Aamjiwnaang successfully ratified the Anishinabek Nation Education Agreement.

As a next step in that process, on May 9, 2017, Aamjiwnaang Council signed a Band Council Resolution (BCR) to approve and sign the Master Education Agreement between:

THE ANISHINABEK FIRST NATIONS

(the “Anishinabek First Nations”)

-And-

THE KINOOMAADZIWIN EDUCATION BODY

(the “KEB”)

-AND-

HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN IN RIGHT OF ONTARIO

as represented by the Minister of Education

(“Ontario”).

The objectives of the agreement are to:

  1. realize the shared vision for student success and well-being that addresses physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being;
  2. enhance the collaboration among the Anishinabek First Nations, the Kinoomaadziwin Education Body, Ontario and School Boards;
  3. enhance opportunities for the engagement and participation of students, families, and communities to support student success and well-being;
  4. increase knowledge and understanding of Bimaadziwin, Kendaaswin and Anishinaabe languages in Anishinabek First Nations’ schools and schools in the Provincially-Funded Education System;
  5. facilitate the transition of students between Anishinabek First Nations’ schools and schools in the Provincially-Funded Education System; and
  6. establish a process to collaborate on and monitor the ongoing alignment of standards between Anishinabek First Nations’ schools and the Provincially-Funded Education System.
