[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]Family Support Services help to strengthen families by providing support which enables them to provide care for their children. Many of the families are also involved with the Children’s Aid Society. Substance abuse and family violence continue to be the major reasons for CAS intervention and child apprehensions. CAS is obligated to consult with First Nations regarding the services they provide to Native children.  Staff are actively involved with the all families involved with CAS. Staff coordinate and attend case meetings; at times supervise access visits; and generally make themselves available to assist in any way families find helpful.

History

Mnaasged means “Shining Bright Star” and is the name selected several years ago by local First Nation Child Services groups under the umbrella of the London District Chiefs Council when they came together to form their own child protection services organization. Native Child Prevention Programs began in the 1980’s to deliver prevention programs on local First Nations offering family support, child and youth programming and to provide counselling and advocacy for families at risk.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”25020″ img_size=”full”][vc_column_text]Crystal George
